today in church the following question was posed by our most curious and talkative two year old. as if to accentuate the shock of it all it occurred smack dab in the middle of the sacrament...that's right, the absolute silent part of the hour.
Ike: mom, the baby is coming out of your vagina, right?
i just said yes very quietly while devan and our awesome friend who was sitting behind us tried to get the laughing under control. devan's shaking made it difficult to avoid being noticed. or maybe it was the fact that our kid said 'vagina' in church. it's a toss up.

Oh my! I was just thinking what Mom's reaction would have been. I'm thinking it would be a little different than your mom's. :) But I do love your mom's perspective.
fantastic. i'm all for calling body parts what they are, although I know it's going to come back & bite me. Probably in the middle of sacrament. Love it.
yes, from the perspective of a social worker who has worked with sexually abused children using proper names for private parts is crucial. people have no idea how important it is to have open, correct dialogue on the subject at home.
it really wasn't the word that shocked me as much as the fact that he was talking about MY vagina. and the guy in front of us -- well, he just didn't move a muscle and we could tell he was working SO hard to just pretend like it didn't happen. it was pretty funny.
