well it happened. and it'll just keep happening i suppose. chas will just keep getting older, marking just how old i'm getting as well. it's awesome and terrifying all at the same time. he opted for a small birthday this year and took a friend on a family trip to the movies and out to lunch. that friend, in the picture above, is one of chas' best friends. HER name is juliene. oh yes. that's what i said. he wanted juliene to come. at first we couldn't decide cause, well, it was like a date of sorts. but they are only 11 and are truly good friends to each other and, well, we were there too.
turned out wonderfully. juliene is also good friends with avery. in fact, just a few weeks later avery had a playdate with juliene and her mom wherein they made cookies AND cake. she loved it, of course.
and so chas is 11. signs of puberty already abound. but i feel hopeful that we all can navigate the next stage of his life well. chas is a wonderful gift in our family. he is smart and efficient in everything he does. he loves children and looks after his siblings so well. he works hard at being his best self and has even shown good signs of self-reflection. that's pretty amazing at 11. his testimony of the Lord grows mostly through his experiences with trial and disappointment. he is learning that in fact, God does love him and knows him well. his obedience at such a young age will be rewarded. i feel confident of that. he has great faith.
i am loving watching him grow into a man.
