chas is a cub scout

well now that chas is eight he gets to be a cub scout! wow. this is way more fun and tons more work than i had imagined it would be. in his first month chas earned the bobcat patch, which is the first patch you must earn. next comes the wolf patch -- which he is well on his way to earning. it's really no surprise just how motivated chas has been to complete each task. checking off boxes is chas' thing. plus, he loves to make things so he's super excited to get to the part where he makes recipe holders and such...

so he's loving it and was so excited yesterday after scouts to tell me that he got to lead a flag ceremony. :) this first picture is at our first monthly pack meeting where he received the bobcat patch...



and this is a picture from our saturday at the beach where we spent time cleaning up the strip we frequent. this was part of chas' work towards achieving his wolf badge. it was fun, but also a bit gross. we found two soiled diapers and LOTS of huge liquor bottles. and yes, we even found a used condom. that makes the second one we've found to date here in alameda.

the first time chas found one laying near the water and picked it up with a stick. he came over and asked us what it was...hmmm...before i could answer devan said, 'it's an instrument...made out of rubber..." i nearly died laughing right there. of course chas asked, "what do you mean an instrument?" but then i blurted out, "Nevermind Chas! just put it down cause...YUCK!" and that was that.

apparently willow street is the hot spot in the middle of the night. i just think that sand would make for an uncomfotable experience personally, but to each his own....just clean up after yourself! sheesh!

but i digress...back to the topic at hand...here are some of our cleaners and our bag of garbage...
