rain gutter regatta

chas got to participate in his first rain gutter regatta in scouts last month. we had a good time making the boat -- in the last few hours before the race :) all the paint came off in the water in the first five minutes! so much for using acrylic paint. it was so windy that evening that most of the boys were struggling to work against it. some of the boys actually looked like they might pass out from blowing so hard! it's was comical. chas came in fourth place in his heat (out of four) and then third in the next heat. he did SUCH a great job of having a good attitude. he was paired up with a kid who'd come up to me before the race began and informed me that his dad had painted his boat and done all the work cause he procrastinated. seriously, that's the word he used. chas handled the unfairness of the entire situation with incredible maturity. after he came in third in the second round he turned to me and said, 'well, at least i did better than last time.' oh! i was so proud of him for the way he handled that whole event. so in the end it was just a fun experience and we had some good treats after it was all over.

Wow...Chas, I am so proud of you, buddy! How I wish I could have been there with you that day to watch you participate in the race, and to hear you tell me all about your boat, and mostly to observe you navigating one of those 'rich life experiences' Your very life is such a joy to all of us who love you and call you our own family! I can't wait to play with you this summer, sweetheart! GMMJB
