yo quiero manzanilla!

so i guess it's in the genes. i should have known all those years ago while watching my mother sip her herbal teas -- that back then gave me the gags -- that i was bound to end up loving the stuff. and if that didn't alert me to the inevitable than the fact that i served my mission in the chamomille capital of the world should have been the next clue. well, i don't exactly know if caracas, venezuela is the chamomille capital of the world, but i wouldn't be surprised if it were.

if you've visited venezuela you know that chamomille is manzanilla. and it doesn't come in tea bags. it's the real deal -- fresh herbs tied in mesh bags. and the relationship that venezuelan ladies have to manzanilla borders on psychotic. seriously. got a cold? manzanilla can fix that. a bump on the head? manzanilla can fix that. a broken leg? manzanilla. face fall from standing in front of the open fridge in the summer heat? manzanilla. cancer? manzanilla. it is the answer to every possible physical ailment if you're venezuelan. for months i thought it was the craziest thing i'd ever heard. then a lady in my second area insisted that i have some one night when i told her i was getting a cold. petra. she was an amazing lady that taught herself to read while i was there. she was such an inspiration to me. i believed everything she told me after she read to me the first time.

and my life changed.

no seriously. all of a sudden i couldn't get enough of the stuff. i loved it. and it felt so good going down. and my cold did go away. and i was sold.

but i'm also slightly retarded cause i didn't realize that manzanilla IS chamomille. so when i came home i was sad that i didn't bring any with me. and then one day i was looking at my mom's cozy chamomille box and saw in small print on the box the word "manzanilla". holy cow! it was like a miracle straight from Heaven itself.

and i've been a chamomille drinker ever since. you see, i'm not so silly as to think that it can cure cancer or that still-a-mystery-to-me weird venezuelan sickness where half your face falls if you stand in front of the fridge for too long. but i am silly enough to believe that it can stave off the cold, the flu, and strep throat. i am completely crazed about and convinced that put together with ibuprophen it has kept me healthy throughout the last ten years of taking care of dirty, sick kids.

and my love for this drink has grown to the point that now i look forward to it like a treat. the way it feels when it moves down my throat, the way it warms, soothes. it's an immediate relaxer. i love it, i love it, i love it.

God must have known i needed it. Hence, my mom and my mission...and my Chamomille. aaahhh! Chamomille here i come.

So when you drink your chamomille in that fancy mug- do you think of Camelview and miss us?? So funny, how did you get that mug?

Nice mug- you are such a mom. I've never tried chamomille- but will have to try it when I get a coupon for it. Thanks for the heads-up on how yum it is.
