so i'm in safeway for a quick trip this morning and isaac is with me of course. his new thing recently has been wearing his socks on his hands, which is what he was doing during our quick trip to safeway. at some point he took them off his hands and started stuffing them into his...mouth. yes, mouth.
i know what you're thinking mom. just keep reading. even though the middle is ugly everyone ends up alive in the end of this story. thankfully.
he seems fine at first and it appears as though he only has one in his mouth and they are very small socks so i just keep my left eye on him and keep on keeping on...cause if you recall this was a quick trip...i needed to hurry to make it to miss a's preschool on time.
so i'm reviewing prices on paper towels and the next thing i know i HEAR him vomiting. a lot. and it's projectile --all over him, the cart, and the floor of the store. not to mention all over the socks, of course. wow. he totally had both socks in his mouth and was gagging/choking.
so nice.
definitely a good mother moment for me. the smell was...intense...to say the least. good thing i was next to the paper towels. i cleaned it up best i could and proceeded to the self-checkout so i wouldn't have to explain to the checkout lady why my kid reeked of throw up. that conversation would have surely only made me feel like an even better mother than i was at the moment.
checkout lady: oh no! is your son sick?
me: no. i just let him stuff his face with not one, but two dirty socks and then he nearly choked cause really i figured i was buying myself a little more time in the grocery store by letting him play this dangerous lets-see-if-i-can-gag-myself game. i mean, what were the chances that he'd actually gag and throw up on them?
checkout lady: oh. ok. paper or plastic? do you need help out? or do you just need help?
i'm certain i'm mostly mentally stable, sane, and healthy. but on occasion i wonder about myself. good thing isaac was smiling the whole way through it. what a trooper. :)

I love it- not the vomiting or gagging part, but that it sounds like something I would do. On Sunday a primary teacher turned to me and said (about my 17 month old) he has something in his mouth. I of course replied, yes I know it is a big googly eye. I know totally not a child friendly play toy, but he was entertained will I was helping my other two kiddos with their primary assignments. Fortunately there was no choking involved.
well 9 times out of 10 there isn't any choking involved -- i thought the universe was on my side with this one... :)
good to hear from you.
It is so fun to see your children growing up! Sorry about the sock incident, but I have to agree, the universe should have been on your side with that one...haha! Glad you are all ok. Hope you don't mind me following your blog...I like to keep up with those Porter kids!
