commotion

i wrote this to devan just a bit ago, but thought i'd put it here to remember...

this morning when i came home from dropping the kids off there were four police cars in front of our driveway. then a swat car and a motorcycle came up. this is definitely out of the norm here in alameda. nothing ever seems to happen around here.

turns out that our neighbor directly across from us (jon) had an attempted break-in just a few minutes before we arrived back home. the neighbor to his left came outside and startled the two boys and they took off running. at some point the neighbor also called the police. they caught the one boy and the other ran away. i was a bit nervous as i had left the door unlocked, but everything was okay.

funny enough -- or totally Providential -- i was biking home with ike and trying to turn left onto encinal to come home -- my usual quick route, but this silly old man in his car couldn't decide what he was doing so i kept waiting for him to go so i could go. i finally decided to just go straight and take the long way home winding through the streets and such. we would have been home in the middle of it all had that not happened. i even had this thought as i was sitting there trying to be patient with this older gentlemen in his car that everything happens for a reason so maybe i should just go straight and not push the issue of turning left.

not too big a deal, but i'm always surprised by how protected we are. and so very grateful.

what a morning!

ps, i'm not leaving the door unlocked anymore. lesson learned.

i always stop to think the same of exact thing every time i'm delayed somewhere!

how very fortunate for you and ike to be kept for harms way!
